Call to Ministry

The call to ministry is one of discernment and not appointment by others.  It is the call of God to do God's work in ministry.  If you feel God is calling you into ministry pray first then run (a little humor).  Most people will ignore or run from God's calling. As you discern this calling make an appointment with your pastor to discuss The Call and the steps necessary to move forward for example seminary/divinity school, course of study or Bible college.

The call to ministry doesn't mean a call to pastor, but it is a call to serve the spiritual lives of the people.  The calling can be for Pastoral Care and Counseling, Chaplain, Minister of Music, Minister of Missions, Minister of Youth, Minister of Children, Minister of Christian Education, Minister of Seniors, Minister of Technology and etc.

You may not know your area, but God will guide you based on your spiritual gifts.  If you need help discovering your spiritual gift use the SHAPE Profile I've provided over the years.  This can be a talking piece for you and your pastor.

Here are some suggested resources to help you discern your calling:

God's Yes was Louder Than My No      Williams H. Myers
My Moral Odyssey                                 Samuel Proctor
The Christian as Minister                       Sharon G. Rubey

Take a look at other pages I've added, the Initial Sermon Preparation and the Minister's Library.  Welcome to the next journey of ministry, truly the field is plenty but the laborers are few.
